Who is Aldi?
Aldi (Albrecht-Diskont) is a German multinational family-owned retail chain founded in 1946 by two brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht. Going to their origin, in 1913, their mother started a small store in Essen. In 1945, they took over their mother’s business and started expanding the outlets in the nearby places. By 1950, these brothers owned 13 Aldi stores, which became 300 by the year 1960. Currently, they are operating nearly 12,000 stores across 18 countries.
Also, in 1960, they split the business into two groups which are Aldi Nord and Aldi SÜD. Aldi Nord headquarters is in Essen and Aldi Süd in Mülheim. They legally and financially separated in 1966 over a dispute about selling cigarettes. Though they are operating individually, they still have a contractual business with each other. Talking about their success, Aldi Nord is operating 2,200 stores in the northern part along with the western and eastern parts of Germany. While Aldi SÜD is covering the southern part along with the western region with nearly 2,000 stores. It stood as a great competitor of Lidl, which is another discount supermarket chain in Germany.
What is the Best Time to Visit Aldi?
To avoid the peak hours, it is best to visit Aldi early morning i.e., between 8 AM to 8:30 AM. If not in the evening, before the closing time i.e., between 7 PM to 8 PM. Also, there will be less crowd around 11 AM to 12 PM. On Sundays and Public Holidays, the Aldi remains closed.
Nevertheless, it is recommended to check the official portal www.aldi-nord.de (Aldi Nord)/ www.aldi-sued.de (Aldi SÜD) or the Maps, to know the updated or live operating hours of the Aldi store before visiting.
